General Blog Update

October 2, 2011

Hey guys, this blog post is gonna be about the blog. It’s something we’ll try to avoid as much as possible, but sometimes there’s just information that needs to be passed on. The best way we have of communicating that information is writing an extra post here on the blog.

First, I want to thank all of you for the amazing first week we’ve had here on the blog. I think I can truthfully say that none of us authors expected the response we received. It’s such an encouragement to know that what we’re saying is being read, and it gives us the motivation to keep on going and keep improving.

The schedule you saw last week is going to be the one we’ll keep for now. It works fairly well with all of our schedules. To recap, Adam Swensen will be bringing you his unique brand of passion and inspiration on Mondays and Fridays; Tim will post his effortless writings on Wednesdays and Saturdays; and I’ll be filling Tuesdays and Thursdays with whatever it is I do.

Next week we’re going to be unveiling a new feature for Sundays to make this a truly daily blog. On Sundays we’ll be doing what I’m calling “Spectrum Perspectives” (because it’s almost alliterative). The format will be similar to what you saw with our launch post last Sunday: each of us will write a couple of paragraphs on one theme, and then we’ll compile the results into a single post.

We want your help with this project. If you have a question or an idea that you think it would be interesting for us to write about, tell us in a comment or drop us a twit (Each of our twitter accounts can be found in the “Who are These Guys?” tab). Sometime around Wednesday we’ll pick the one we think would be the most interesting to write about and churn out a post, giving credit to the originator of the post’s theme of course. If you guys don’t come through for us with stellar suggestions (I know you will), I guess I’ll just have to come up with themes for Spectrum Perspective myself. You don’t want that; it will usually end up being about politics.

One last thing. A friend of ours has volunteered to create a twitter account for Singular Spectrum. Each day he dissects our posts and twits the best quotes he can find. We really think you should give the account a follow. That way, even if you have a busy schedule and can’t make time to read our posts everyday, you can still see what they’re about and whether reading it that day would be a worthwhile time investment for you. The account can be found here.

May God’s mercies cover all you do this week.

Check out the commentary by Chuck Colson on Breakpoint for October 5th. I would love to hear the three of you express your thoughts on the enemy’s tactic of distraction/diversion/entertainment keeping us from what we are truly here for. Another tangentially related thought to discuss might be: How do you use media (like the internet, for example) as a tool for good purposes without it becoming a distraction in itself? (Asked both in the abstract and the personal.)
