“So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.”
In our Christian lifestyle, I find that one of the things we forget and underestimate is the Holy Spirit. How can i say that? Read the second paragraph. In the first paragraph, verses 16-18, Paul simply states if you walk in the Spirit, you will not be walking in the flesh. I know too many Christians living in their flesh (me included) and there is a simple way to solve that problem… Live in the Spirit. Listen to what the Spirit and live like you know you should. Live like you have been saved by grace through faith! We are to live like Christ and He lived differently. Don’t get caught up in the world, but live life like you are changed! If you want to get rid of porn, pride, and any other item that is in the flesh, you MUST live by the Spirit. It is inevitable, that you will always fail with fighting temptation without God and His Spirit.
Something I learned from this passage is that the fruit of the Spirit flows OUT of you when you are living in the Spirit. We all want to show love and peace and all that jazz, but to truly show it, we must be living in the Spirit. It will come naturally, through the Spirit, to love someone. It will come naturally, through the Spirit, to be patient. It will be difficult to lose control of yourself and give it to God, but again, who ever said life in Christ would be easy? Be fruity, living in the Spirit.
